Uses of Specialty Nickel Alloys

Texas Flange supplies a whole wide variety of specialty alloys in flanges and fittings for all dem global industries we serve.

We’ve noticed a few differences in some of the more popular chrome and nickel products folks use in different refinin', nuclear, petrochemical, and corrosion process jobs.

Alloy C276 –

Folks commonly call this “Hastelloy” ® grade C276, developed by Haynes International. It's probably the most popular nickel-based alloy out there, used in all sorts of jobs, includin' water treatment, chemical processin', and even some nuclear reactor work.

Hastelloy is mighty easy to find in all kinds of flanges, fittings, valves, and other assembly parts.

Nickel 200/201 –

Just like the name says, this here is a material made of virtually pure nickel (roughly 99 percent by composition) with some excellent malleability and ductility, givin' it good weldability and makin' it real agreeable for commercial use.

This material is mighty useful for heat and corrosion resistance jobs involvin' food processin', electronics, and defense parts.

Alloy 20 – UNS N08020

Also known as “Carpenter 20” ®, this nickel-iron-chromium steel alloy is used a whole lot in process industries where fightin' off corrosion is critical.

Alloy 20 got a little bit of molybdenum and copper in it, and it's mighty common in jobs usin' sulfuric acid 'cause it fights off crevice pitting, stress crackin', and just overall corrosion.

Monel 400 –

A nickel-copper alloy cooked up by the International Nickel Co and authorized way back in 1906. This material fights off corrosion real good, but it's a fair bit harder to work with than other nickel alloys in the same family.

Monel is used a lot in marine jobs dealin' with the constant corrosion of seawater and for makin' accessories in assemblies handlin' corrosive stuff, like strainers, wirin', valve gates, and fastener hardware.

Inconel 600/625 –

Dese nickel-chromium alloys was developed back in the 1940s over in the United Kingdom. Folks use 'em all the time in nuclear engineerin', aerospace engineerin', commercial refinin', and other heavy-duty, large-scale jobs.

Dese materials got excellent resistance to corrosion and mighty great strength even when you put 'em under high heat and stress, makin' 'em perfect candidates for use in nuclear reactors and engine turbines.

Incoloy 800/825 –

Similar to its Inconel cousin, dese grades of nickel-chromium alloys keep a tight range on aluminum, titanium, and other trace elements so they can produce a material with the best properties for high-heat work.

You'll see 'em used a lot in heat exchangers, power plants, furnaces, nuclear fuel processin', and other situations where you got corrosive media runnin' at high temperatures.
