Flatness Tolerance

Some of our folks often wonder if flatness gonna be a problem when they're fixin' to align flanges right on their equipment, or just for makin' things look pretty and symmetrical for them non-industrial jobs.

Now, to the best of our knowledge, there ain't no flatness tolerance written down in any published flange specification, no sir. Seein' as how flanges are turned on lathes from big ol' oversized forgings, the chance of y'all havin' a problem is mighty close to zero.

That bein' said, a fella could take a micrometer and check that thickness in a bunch of spots against them published thickness tolerances to “flunk” a flange if its flatness is lookin' real questionable.

I tell you what, Texas Flange ain't never had a single issue with flatness on any flanges we done supplied to our customers.

FLATNESS TOLERANCE

Now, in some cases, it's mighty important to keep that flatness in mind when you're machinin' down to certain dimensions.

This here is mostly just a worry when a customer needs a big ol' large OD flange made down to a real thin thickness. For example, if y'all need a custom ring flange with a 60” diameter cut down to a half-inch thickness, we wouldn't offer machinin' across the face 'cause it's likely to start “wafflin',” but we'd sure offer it mill finished right off the plate.

That's just us tryin' to keep flatness from bein' a problem on the finished flange we ship out, and to make sure that face finish ain't out of code. In them extreme cases,

Texas Flange might tell y'all to get your facin' done with Blanchard grinding or some other way besides the usual symmetry of a 125-250 RMS, so that even though

The regular industrial standard for face finish ain't really doable for this particular job, we can still give y'all an asymmetric machine finish to get that friction you need for the gasket sealin' process when you're puttin' it all together.

Texas Flange is always workin' hard to give y'all the best service down on the bayou and beyond.
