Threaded Flange
Threaded flanges, also sometimes called companion flanges / screw flanges / NPT flanges, got a female NPT thread in the center for connectin' to male NPT threaded pipin'.
I tell you what, it's worth notin' that threaded flanges are mighty common when you're makin' reducin' connections. We got other thread styles available for machinin' too, aside from dat standard NPT form designated by the ASME B16.5 specification.

The most popular threaded flanges range from ½ inch to 6” nominal pipe size, but we can sure enough offer NPT threaded flanges clear up to 24” if y'all need 'em.
The amount of extra machinin' and labor hours dat go into makin' a larger diameter threaded connection makes 'em a whole lot less popular than a slip-on or weld neck setup.
Now dat can be mighty handy for an application that needs connectin' and disconnectin' from time to time. Dat male pipe end gets joined to the flange without no weld connection required, but y'all can seal it up with a weld if necessary, 'specially for the safety of them pipe fittings.
This weld seal would just defeat the purpose of a threaded flange as a structural option, seein' as its main advantage is bein' able to put together and take apart the connection easy.
When you're workin' with pressure vessel equipment, y'all can apply dat weld seal if you're mighty sure you want to keep dat pipe and flange assembly sealed up permanent.
Threaded flange connections are often required when y'all are usin' a male NPT pipe connection and the media you're handlin' is highly reactive or explosive, which is why NPT/threaded companion flanges are commonly used out in the API oilfield service.
This API 6A specification also allows for a male thread flange connection, but I tell you what, dat's a whole lot less common than the female NPT in the center.

Questions Folks Ask Us (FAQs)
A threaded flange is a kind of pipe flange dat's got internal threads right on its bore, lettin' y'all screw it straight onto the outside threads of a pipe.
This design does away with the need for weldin', makin' it a mighty convenient choice for pipes that can't be welded, or in spots where y'all just don't want to weld.
Y'all can easily screw threaded flanges right onto a pipe without needin' any weldin' or extra sealin' methods, makin' 'em quicker and a whole lot more straightforward to install or take off.
Threaded flanges are usually a good bit cheaper than welded or slip-on flanges, since they don't need no weldin' labor or specialized equipment.
Threaded flanges are best used in jobs where the pressure ain't too high, seein' as they ain't built to handle the stresses that come with high-pressure systems.
For systems dat need regular maintenance or fixin' up, like temporary piping or testing setups, dem threaded flanges let y'all put 'em together and take 'em apart mighty easy.
Threaded flanges ain't suitable for systems with high internal pressures, 'cause dem threads might just fail or leak under all dat stress.
In applications with a whole lot of vibration, them threaded flanges might not hold on securely over time, leadin' to loosenin' up and potential leakage, I tell you what.
Clean dem pipe threads and the inside of the flange to ensure a secure and leak-free connection. Align the threaded flange with the pipe and screw it onto the pipe’s threaded end by hand until it's nice and snug.
Use a wrench to tighten dat flange onto the pipe a bit more. Be careful not to over-tighten, 'cause dat can damage the threads or the pipe. If y'all want, use some thread sealant or Teflon tape to stop leaks in lower-pressure systems, makin' sure you get a tight seal.
